Frequently Asked Questions

You asked, we answered!

What types of teeth whitening are available?

Dr. Angart and the New Albany Smiles team have designed a safe, effective, and successful teeth whitening process with you in mind. There are two brands available, the KOR® Whitening system and Opalescence®. Both kits include custom-made trays that you will wear at home.  The KOR® system includes an additional in-office procedure that allows the material to saturate and condition the teeth. We will guide and monitor your progress along the way. Our team oversees your whitening process throughout the procedure which can take approximately a month.

We are proud that our patient-focused teeth whitening process is not only safe and effective but highly successful as well. Please contact our office to learn more about how New Albany Smiles can brighten and whiten your teeth with their unique process.

Do I need a mouthguard or bite splint for grinding?

If you experience headaches and/or jaw aches upon waking in the morning, you may be grinding or clenching your teeth at night. This common occurrence can be caused by a few factors, which can damage your teeth. Dr. Angart will consult with you about your symptoms and may take an image of your mouth to more fully assess your concerns.

At the conclusion of a thorough examination and consultation with you, Dr. Angart will determine your diagnosis and options for a remedy. Here are a variety of solutions that may be well-suited to alleviate your discomfort including lab fabricated custom bite guards and bite splints. Bite Guards are delivered, adjusted properly, and monitored precisely through your improvement of symptoms.

I have a fear of the dentist, what can be done?

We know there are many people who have real anxiety and fears when it comes to having dental work performed. Therefore, New Albany Smiles offers sedation dentistry, which is beneficial in two ways: it gives you the level of relaxation or sedation you need, and it allows Dr. Angart and his team a better opportunity to accomplish your dental treatment.

New Albany Smiles has several sedation options which can address the different levels of anxiety from patient to patient. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, and IV moderate sedation or twilight sedation. Dr. Angart offers, upon the patients need, a dental anesthesiologist that will be a part of your sedation team if necessary

What is the best way to replace a lost tooth?

The best way to replace a tooth is with a dental implant. There are several reasons why a dental implant is the best way to replace a tooth:

  • The titanium post (the part of the implant that replaces the “root” of a tooth) fuses to your actual bone, thus providing the best support possible
  • If properly cared for, a dental implant can last a lifetime
  • Preserve the jawbone and prevent loss of bone over time

Dr. Angart, his highly trained team, and his on-site dental laboratory are all well-equipped to provide you with an excellent dental implant procedure, including the latest in dental radiography. The team will guide you through the process making it as convenient and as comfortable as possible.

How old should my kids be before their first visit to the dentist?

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists, your child should be seen by a dentist when the first tooth appears, or no later than his/her first birthday. This appointment is a quick 10-20 minutes to look at the growth, development, and nutrition in your child’s diet and brushing habits. Also, the earlier a child is seen by a dentist the easier it is to avoid negative associations about going to the dentist. Our entire office will take pleasure in the opportunity to leave a fun impression with your child.

What insurance do you accept?

New Albany Smiles accepts nearly all dental insurance programs. We will work with you to navigate the particulars of your dental care coverage and the costs associated with treatments.

In addition to accepting nearly all dental insurance programs, we also offer CareCredit to all patients.
